What 3dPlayer can do
This list comes from the app's actual source code and on-device testing. Where something has limits, we say so.
Local videos & music
Your whole library, organised
3dPlayer scans the videos and music already on your phone and groups them into Videos, Folders and Music tabs. Add extra folders yourself, exclude folders you don't want, search by name, sort your way, and select multiple items to share.
Formats
MP4, MKV, WebM, MOV, 3GP, TS and audio files, plus HLS and DASH streams - powered by Media3 ExoPlayer. Exact codec support depends on your phone; files needing codecs your phone doesn't have (for example some DTS/AC3 audio) may play without sound or not open.
Resume & continue watching
Stop a video anywhere and 3dPlayer offers to resume from that exact spot. The Home screen keeps a Continue Watching row so unfinished videos are one tap away.
Playlists, favourites, history
Create playlists, reorder them, star favourites, and browse everything you've watched. Clearing history is one tap. All of it stays in a private database on your phone.
Play from URL
Direct video links
Paste a link in the Network tab (or share it to 3dPlayer from any app). The app checks the link first, then plays direct MP4, WebM and MKV files and HLS, DASH and RTSP streams in the native player - with seeking, speed and audio-only mode. Save links with your own names for later.
YouTube & Vimeo
YouTube and Vimeo links open in their official embedded players inside the app, with picture-in-picture support. If a video's owner disables embedding, you see the provider's own message - 3dPlayer does not work around it.
Other websites
Any other page opens in a hardened in-app browser: Safe Browsing on, no JavaScript bridge, no file access, downloads off. An optional privacy filter can block third-party requests on those pages.
Honest limits
No DRM, login or paywall bypass. No video downloading or converting. Instagram, Facebook and similar pages open as normal web pages only. Paid or expired links simply won't play - the app tells you why instead of pretending.
Gesture controls
| Gesture | Action |
|---|---|
| Swipe left half up/down | Brightness |
| Swipe right half up/down | Volume |
| Swipe horizontally | Seek with preview |
| Double-tap left / right | Skip back / forward 10 seconds |
| Double-tap centre | Play / pause |
| Pinch | Zoom |
| Long-press and hold | 2x speed until you let go |
| Lock button | Hides all controls so nothing is tapped by accident |
Picture-in-picture & background
Picture-in-picture
Press Home while watching and the video continues in a small floating window with skip and play/pause buttons. Works for local videos, direct links and the in-app web player. Needs the system's PiP permission - the app opens the right settings screen if it's off.
Background audio
Turn on "Play audio in background" and keep listening with the screen off or while using other apps, with full notification and headset controls. Some phones (especially aggressive battery managers) can still stop background apps - the app links you to the battery setting that fixes it.
Audio-only mode
Flip any playing video to audio-only with one tap - the video track switches off and a music-style screen takes over. Perfect for songs and lectures. Switching back keeps your position.
Sleep timer
Fall asleep to a video - playback stops on its own after the time you set.
Subtitles & audio
Subtitles
Embedded subtitle tracks plus external SRT, VTT and ASS files, with proper Hindi/UTF-8/UTF-16 decoding. Style them your way: size, colour, outline, background and position. Delay adjustment works for SRT files.
Audio control
Pick audio tracks on multi-audio files. Equalizer with bass boost and volume boost uses your phone's built-in audio effects, so availability depends on the device.
Design & themes
Glass interface
A 3D glass look with gentle tilt effects, icon-first controls and English labels throughout. A "reduced effects" mode tones the visuals down whenever you want.
Themes
Dark Galaxy, Midnight Blue, Purple Nebula, Light Glass, AMOLED Black, or follow the system theme. Status and navigation bar colours adapt automatically.
Privacy
On-device, by default
No analytics, no ads inside the player, no tracking SDKs. History, favourites, playlists, saved links and settings never leave your phone. The app has no "phone home" channel for your media or browsing.
Web privacy filter
The optional filter for in-app web pages uses EasyList/EasyPrivacy rule lists and runs entirely on your phone - rule checks happen locally, never on a server. It does not touch YouTube or video streams, and a counter shows what was actually blocked on the current page.
Your account
Sign-in (email + password, handled by Firebase Authentication) exists only to check your subscription. The only things stored online are your email, subscription status and the single device linked to your account.
Error history you control
Problems are logged to an on-device Error history with links and tokens stripped. You choose if and when to share it - it's never sent automatically.
What 3dPlayer does not do
So you know exactly what you're getting:
- No video downloading, converting or saving of online streams
- No DRM, login, paywall or subscription bypass of any kind
- No YouTube ad removal or YouTube background-play workarounds
- No Chromecast (not built)
- No network share (SMB) browsing
- Frame stepping is approximate, not frame-accurate
- Subtitle delay works for SRT files only
